Help Wanted

Postby Robert Keen » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:04 pm

FWIW the latest (June 16th) issue of Cycle News has the following ad:

Sales Manager - Major Brand

The Garcia Automotive Group in Albuquerque, NM is acquiring a major motorcycle/ATV brand and is seeking a top level Sales Manager to build our team.........

Any rumors out there about what brand this might be?

Another one bites the dust. As a member in good standing with FEMA (Former Employees of Motorsport Association) I was always annoyed by the fact that on the marquee, the O in Honda was larger than the BMW roundel. C'est la vie, now the big H is gone as well.

If you didn't already know, Motorsport on Montgomery is history. A friend of mine who runs a local Van lines called me to let me know. The signs are down and they're emptying the contents into trucks. Like John Desko, I too am a member of FEMA (Former Employees of Motorsport Association). Like em' or not, Motorsport had been around since the 60's. Lot of this going on around the country.

There goes my lifetime battery warranty for the RS. #-o

I guess it came down to their lifetime, instead of the bike's - or mine for that matter! [-o<

Went by Motorsport today but didn't stop. Looked like they were having a bake sale with a few bikes outside. Signs were still up so I wonder whats up. Talked to a few more folks and they have heard the same story I got. I also heard they've hauled off all the Kawasakis, to where I don't know. Just can't be good new for them.
On a lighter note, I went by the new Powersport Honda and met the GM. Nice guy named Jeff out of California where he ran a Yamaha shop for years. Sounds like the Garcia group is in it for the long haul. Still lots of construction going on but he has a few bikes on the floor. Worth a trip by to check it out. They're located next to the Smart Car dealership. Jeff was asking about clubs and people to ride with so I aimed him here. Should be hearing from him soon!

John- Good question. Don't know the answer. Don't forget Al Simonson (Honda), and Joe/Mary Turney(BSA). They were all in the fairgrounds area in those early years.

Pug- They had a couple of 750's. Not sure what model(s) they were. The Moto Guzzi website still list them as Guzzi dealer but I think they just haven't updated the website. Hope I'm wrong. MG is making some nice products.

if I am not mistaken (something that happens very often) the Garcia Automotive Group holds the Vespa-Moto Guzzi dealership license for Albuquerque.

Marcelo,
Yes, Garcia Group is still listed as active, but while they were knee-deep in Vespas, the poor Guzzi's were pushed over in the corner. I wonder if they're still able/willing to order (and support) a new Stelvio, Norge, etc. if approached :?:

Saw an ad in the paper today that they're open for business. Down at the Rennaissance Center.
